A Gainesville man was arrested early Monday morning after assaulting an elderly, handicapped man in Micanopy.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said Gerald Devon Davis, 33, confronted a homeless man in Micanopy at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday to confront him about money the victim owed him.
Davis approached the victim, who was in a wheelchair “in the street” near 203 SW Sixth St., according to an arrest report. Davis told the victim he was “going to blow his brains out,” and poked him in the chest. The victim told police he saw something black in Davis’ hand.
“I’m going to kick your ass. This is like taking candy from a baby,” Davis said, according to the report.
In fear for his life, the victim went to a nearby residence for help. The resident told police that when she opened her door, she saw the victim’s wheelchair knocked over and Davis hitting the victim in the face and chest multiple times, according to the report.
The resident told Davis to go away, but he continued to assault the victim. The resident told police she heard Davis say, “I’m going to kill you,” to the victim, according to the report.
Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and abusing an elderly or disabled person. He was taken to the Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
