I thought I’d carry on the theme of keys for this week’s DIY craft. Gotta put those color coded keys somewhere! So here is an easy way to make a cute key holder for your dorm, apartment, etc.

All you need is:

  • A 6 in. x 6 in. canvas in whichever color you want
  • Any color spray paint
  • Three cup hooks (I found mine at Michael’s)
  • ‘Keys’ word template (Link below)
  • X-Acto precision tool (You can also use scissors, but I found the tool a lot easier to use. I found the X-Acto tool at Joann Fabric)

Step 1: Cut out the template with the X-Acto tool or scissors to use it as a stencil.

Step 1

Step 2: Tape down the template to the canvas so it’s easy to paint over.

Step 2

Step 3: Spray paint the letters onto the canvas (I made some contraption with a cardboard box so the paint didn’t get on the canvas).

Step 3

Step 4: Screw in the hooks to the wooden frame of the canvas.

Step 4

Step 5: Put your key holder up on the wall using Command Strips, double-sided tape or frame hardware. I used Command Strips because I already had a few extra.

While I was surfing the Internet for a template to use, I came across lilblueboo.com and found the perfect one.
