The Gators went 6-6 on Day 2 of the 2013 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

With Belinda Woolcock, Kourtney Keegan, Stefani Stojic, and Olivia Janowicz all falling in singles, only Florida’s Alexandra Cercone, Brianna Morgan and Sofie Oyen will advance to the quarterfinals of the singles draw.

On the doubles court, the freshman duo of Keegan and Woolcock will advance after defeating Miami duo Kelsey Laurente and Melissa Bolivar 8-2. Stojic and Janowicz lost their doubles match to Georgia State’s Marcia Tere-Apisah and Tarani Kamoe.

A few rain showers interrupted Saturday’s action, but coach Roland Thornqvist didn’t think it affected the Gators at all.

“Today was another day when we played great tennis,” Thornqvist said. “I’m very happy with where we are at this stage of the fall. It’s apparent that everyone has improved since the start of the season.”

With their singles wins, Cercone and Morgan will face off against each other in the quarterfinals, both with hopes of advancing to the semifinals. Oyen will compete against Georgia’s Lily Kimbell.

In doubles, the Gators duo of Keegan and Woolcock will battle against Georgia’s Lauren Herring and Maho Kowas tomorrow in the semi-finals. The duo won their quarterfinals match against UGA’s Mia King and Lilly Kimbell early Saturday, 8-3.

Sunday will kick off Day 3 of the tournament, beginning with main singles consolations. The day will conclude with main doubles semifinals. Action begins at 9 a.m.
