I recall people on Turlington Plaza protesting UF parking. I am writing to encourage their demonstrations. I recently received a parking citation for my scooter. While I can say the citation (for sidewalk parking) is incorrect, I would also like to point out that I am the type of person who never breaks rules, no matter what. But through this ticket-receiving process I have witnessed with my own eyes how evil the UFPD parking enforcement is.

When a scooter owner receives a ticket, he or she is not informed of this until three to four business days later by mail. From there, the owner is told he or she can either pay or appeal. My first instinct was to appeal because I knew I had done nothing wrong. I then realized that by not receiving a ticket on site, I had no physical proof of my innocence. It would then take four to six weeks to find out the decision of the appeal, and a late fee would be applied after 15 days.

Do the math, and you’ll understand my frustration. Having overpaid before, I can also say that UF does not do this crazy thing called a “refund.” So here’s to you guys out there spreading the word about how UFPD makes money off students working their way through college: Good job and keep with it!
