Sophomore center Kenny Kadji will undergo surgery to repair a bulging disk in his back Wednesday.
UF coach Billy Donovan posted the news on his Twitter feed, telling fans to “keep him in your thoughts and let's hope for a strong recovery.”
Kadji has not played since Florida’s 80-59 win over Florida A&M on Dec. 1, and the surgery will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Former UF forward Adrian Moss had the same surgery before the 2005-06 season and made it back in time for the start of fall practice, although Moss was suffering from two herniated disks.
Kadji saw limited time in eight games this season before the injury kept him from playing, averaging 5.6 minutes, one point and 0.8 rebounds per game.
As a freshman, Kadji averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds while playing in 34 games last season.
Kadji is the second Gator to be sidelined for the rest of the season due to surgery, as redshirt sophomore Adam Allen underwent season-ending knee surgery in November.
