As I began reading the letters to the editor Friday about Claire Beach's column about abortion, I quickly glanced at the names of those writing the responses and was baffled to see they were written by men.
This is probably my biggest frustration in the ongoing battle to legalize abortion for good: Men think they have a clue about the feelings and views of women who are considering the heavy decision to have an abortion.
For the most part, single mothers are a result of a selfish man walking away from the situation because he is fortunate enough not to have the physical burden of pregnancy. It is outrageous that Lawrence Mackey said it is selfish for a woman to make the decision to pursue her career or education over having a child.
What is selfish and incredibly unfortunate is when women choose to raise a baby when they are not mentally or financially stable enough to properly do so. The majority of women who have an abortion make this decision because they feel they cannot give an unborn fetus the childhood most of us were fortunate enough to have.
