Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday night after police said they burglarized a school for snacks.

At about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Chase Grady Blocker, 18, and Dustin R. Trowell, 16, hopped a fence at Cornerstone Academy, situated at 3401 NW 34th St., and escaped with fruit cups, chips and cookies, according to a police report.

Trowell ran to a yard in the 3300 block of NW 31st Ave., where police detained him, Gainesville Police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email. After police found a backpack filled with the snacks, Trowell said his hunger motivated him to burglarize the school, according to the report.

Blocker, who was not yet captured, climbed atop a roof and hid for about 20 minutes as he waited for police to leave, Tobias said. He later left the roof and ran.

After becoming tired, Blocker decided to rest near an unmarked police car — an officer sat inside, according to the report.

Police detained Blocker after a brief chase, later discovering his probation for conveyance burglary, according to the report.

Blocker is responsible for a string of three conveyance burglaries in the Rock Creek neighborhood, Tobias said.

Police arrested Blocker for burglary and larceny and took him to the Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $30,000 bond.

Authorities took Trowell, who is a minor, to a Juvenile Assessment Center, Tobias said.
