Gainesville Police arrested an Alachua man whom officers said passed out behind the wheel of a car after huffing cans of cleaning duster spray.
Officers arrested 40-year-old Rodney Wayne Plylar on charges of inhaling harmful chemicals, marijuana possession, drug equipment possession and driving under the influence, according to an arrest report.
At about 8 p.m., an officer responded to a car that had crashed into a ditch in the 6900 block of West University Avenue and found Plylar passed out at the wheel with a can of cleaning duster spray in his hand.
The officer noticed urine on Plylar’s pants and the smell of pee on the driver’s seat. Plylar, who was sitting on the ground while police spoke with him, said he spilled Coke on his pants, according to the report.
Officers discovered 45 cans of cleaning duster, fewer than 20 grams of marijuana and a device for smoking marijuana in Plylar’s car, according to the report.
Plylar performed poorly on field sobriety tests. The results from his breath test showed that he had been huffing the duster spray.
During questioning, Plylar told officers he was using the cleaning duster cans to clean cement, according to the report. Officers booked him into Alachua County Jail with a $9,000 bond.
