UF has reached a settlement with shooting victim Kofi Adu-Brempong, but details of the deal remain confidential.

Adu-Brempong, who was shot by UPD officers on March 2, has agreed not to sue UF.

In exchange, the university will pay his medical bills, will allow him to finish his doctoral program and will pay Adu-Brempong an undisclosed monetary settlement.

Janine Sikes, spokeswoman for the university, said the monetary details of the settlement would not be released because of federal and state privacy laws.

The money for the settlement will not come from state or university funds.

The university will instead pay the settlement from alumni-donation funds.

"Mr. Adu-Brempong is satisfied with the resolution," Sikes said. "This was a tragic situation, and we wish Mr. Adu-Brempong a full recovery and success in his academic endeavors."

"His goal is to recover from his injuries and complete his doctoral dissertation," Bill Hoppe, Adu-Brempong's attorney, said. "This settlement will afford him both the time and the means to accomplish those goals."
