We wouldn’t exactly call it a surprise that President Donald Trump is a less than trustworthy commander in chief. His entire campaign leading up to his victory was filled with verbal falsehoods that spewed out of his mouth like pellets out of a revolver. Within a few months of his campaign, lying appeared to be second nature to the giant Cheeto vying for control of our country.

Much to our dismay, the lying didn’t stop once he was sworn into office. It only got worse.

On Tuesday, news broke that Trump had asked former FBI Director James Comey in February to stop the investigation of Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Before Comey was canned, he started to keep memos of all his meetings with the president. His memos became a paper trail of evidence to help solidify the claims that Trump has attempted to influence an ongoing investigation. Comey reported that the president told him, “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” among other encouraging statements. The White House, however, denied the series of events described in Comey’s memos.

At this point, we aren’t too shocked that yet another discrepancy has come out of the White House. It seems every scandal, or near scandal, is nothing but an overdrawn “he said, she said” debate. While that’s fine in a high-school cafeteria, we are sick of seeing that type of problem management in the Capitol.

We thus pose our dear president with this question: Mr. President, when will the lying stop?

Reporters have dubbed the most recent Trump snafu to be something close to the Watergate scandal of former President Richard Nixon’s administration. The White House has fought back, of course, blaming the dishonest media (@ us next time?) for continuously poking at “nonissues.” Just as Nixon’s cabinet had, Trump and his colleagues are blaming the media and alleging innocence.

America, however, isn’t so convinced by his protective claims. We still have questions that need answers, and we can’t trust that what comes out of the White House is going to be true.

With this new lie surfacing, thanks to Comey’s memos, we further question the validity of Trump’s claims on his involvement with Russia. Vladimir Putin has even come to bat for Trump, offering up transcripts of meetings between the two in order to prove Trump’s innocence. Too bad we trust Vlad about as much as we trust Donny.

We hope Comey’s memos are able to help us figure out what exactly Trump has going on with Russia and whether he did, in fact, leak classified information to the shirtless equestrian of the East. What we are most upset about, however, is that this is even something that needs investigation. We should be able to have full faith in our president, not have to worry about his collaborations with communist nations.

He continually fires those who challenge him, and it seems every day we are alerted to yet another sketchy scandal that leaves us questioning the mental stability of our nation’s leader. So far, he seems to be unpredictable, erratic and overall unfit to hold so much power.

We believe, to put it bluntly, the president needs to man up. He needs to stop hiding behind others: his advisers, his department heads, journalists, his daughter and his own citizens. He needs to put more thought into his actions and consider the consequences of them. He needs to start accepting blame for his mistakes and promise change for himself and for us. As he continues to ignore his mistakes and flaws, Trump further distances himself from being the president our great nation deserves. We deserve better than a president we cannot trust.
