Artist displays paintings, magic marker drawings

After Tom Miller's paintings are sold, some are thrown down the stairs.

Some are shot at. Some are painted over by their owners. Some are hung in frames. And sometimes these paintings make their way back to him, the local artist and music maker said.

"I think it's pretty cool that paintings, just like people, can have a life and show evidence that they've been around," he said. Tonight, self-proclaimed jack of all trades and master of about three, Tom Miller, will hold his first painting show in over a decade.

At 8 p.m. at The Story House on 11 S.E. Fifth Ave., Miller's "Paintings and Dirty Little Magic Marker Drawings" exhibit will feature 10 paintings and 45 magic marker drawings.

"The paintings are abstracts, which come rather quickly and have an emotion content to them," Miller said. "Some are whimsical and some are dark, the same as my poetry."

Miller said the magic marker drawings satisfy his filthy need to freak out, entertain and make people gawk, gasp and wonder.

When looking at his art, Miller said people don't know whether to leave, admire it, throw up or look at the world differently.

Some of the paintings cost between $15 and $20, he said.
