A new army of concrete stumps lining the curbs of the southwest entrance of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium has many students, well, stumped.
The two-foot-high "bollards" are part of the $28 million construction project to complete the stadium's Gateway of Champions.
The entire project should be completed in late July after about three years of construction.
Aside from highlighting the football team's national championship titles in 1996 and 2006, the gateway will house office space for the football program.
It will also include an expanded strength and conditioning room used by six UF athletic teams.
The stumps are meant to prevent cars from parking on the sidewalk and jumping curbs on game days, said Chip Howard, associate athletic director of operations.
Howard said he does not expect the cylindrical structures to be obstacles to fans during Gators game days.
He said construction on the stadium expansion will be completed on time even though original projections estimated it would be finished by August 2007.
"It's not over the top, but it's going to be very functional," Howard said.
He said funding for the project came from Gator Boosters.
