Bambooville creator Jon Anderson met with representatives from UF’s physical plant Wednesday to discuss the future of the art installation, which is slated to be torn down.
Anderson and the representatives sat on green metal patio furniture in the remnants of Bambooville surrounded by the dozen students who came out to support Anderson.
Jeff Chorlog, the assistant vice president of the Physical Plant Division, said he was there to reiterate that Bambooville must be removed from UF’s property by Monday.
Anderson and his student helper, 23-year-old UF management graduate student Elliot Larkin, asked to extend the deadline to March 10, but Chorlog encouraged Anderson to create a proposal and submit it to UF officials.
“You need to deconstruct it, store it and go through the proper channels,” Chorlog said. Bambooville has been almost entirely dismantled, as per the university’s request.
In the days following the news, two petitions were created asking UF to consider keeping the art installation. As of press time, the petitions had about 1,500 signatures combined.
