Ryan Nelson, UF alumnus, former Writing on the Wall, staff member

The Alligator's Editorial Board decried the Writing on the Wall Project Monday as useless and implied that its staffers were choir preaching and resume-building energy wasters. But it was right.

The project was a waste because there is definitely no intolerance left on this campus. The project was never about ending intolerance, educating the prejudiced, nor granting catharsis to bigotry victims - it was supposed to get the conversation started. No one has a panacea to cure intolerance because the wound keeps reinventing itself each generation.

So we keep writing on the wall to elucidate new mutations of prejudice and debate what, if any, action we must take. This letter will mark the fourth mention of the wall in your paper this year.

So to the editors: Like it or not, you are helping our cause.

Thank you for getting the ball rolling.
