Three members of UF's computer programming club are competing against student teams from around the world this week in the finals of a competition sponsored by IBM.

The 32nd Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals began in Canada on Sunday and lasts until Thursday.

One hundred teams were invited. UF's team, the "Vehicle of Puzzle," includes Joshua Hartman, an electrical engineering senior; Brianna Satinoff, a computer science senior; and Miorel Palii, a physics sophomore.

The team qualified for the world finals after winning the regional competition in October 2007.

At the finals, each team will receive the same set of 10 problems.They will have five hours to solve as many as they can.

"Our goal is solve three to four problems," Hartman said.

"And beat MIT," Statinoff added.
