We've suffered far too long waiting for the Internet to find its way to our gyms, one of the few remaining nooks where Wi-Fi isn't readily available. It seems that our days of Weblessly toiling on the treadmills at Southwest Recreation Center have come to an end at last, though we aren't sure why.

We are addicted to our e-mail and Facebook accounts as much as anyone else at UF, but do we really need to bring our vices to the gym?

Are we supposed to update our online status from "blasting our glutes" to "sweating off 'Beat the Clock'" as we move from the squat rack to the cardio room?

We just can't wait to see the increase in Southwest Rec's iPod touch and iPhone population. Tired of the weight room's afternoon techno thump-thump? We've got your solution.

"Hey man, I need a sec before I do my last set. I've gotta finish downloading this new Colbie Caillat track. It freakin' rocks."

Maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but to us, the combination of high-speed Internet and high testosterone levels is laughable.

As always, UF has managed to find a ray of optimism in our black cloud of doubt, stating that the recent installation may encourage students to scurry to the gym amidst their hectic midday schedules.

As a plus, the addition didn't cost UF any extra money.

Hopefully the money UF didn't spend could fund relief efforts for laptops and iPhones that fall victim to sweaty palms and stray dumbbells.
