Florida made no players or assistant coaches available to the media after Wednesday’s practice, but head coach Urban Meyer made himself available to the media.
Meyer felt that Orlando Sentinel beat reporter Jeremy Fowler took Deonte Thompson’s quotes comparing Tim Tebow and John Brantley out of context and voiced his displeasure.
“If that was my son, we’d be going at it right now,” Meyer said in front of a group of 20 or so members of the media.
A team spokesman told all media in attendance during the practice that players and coaches were not made available because of the way Thompson’s quotes were blown out of proportion.
BRANTLEY SITS OUT: Brantley sat out of Wednesday’s practice, and a team spokesman said he was running a high fever with the possibility of strep throat.
Brantley tweaked his knee in practice Monday, but the spokesman said his absence has nothing to do with his knee.
Freshman Trey Burton and punter Chas Henry, who have zero combined pass attempts in their careers, took the first- and second-team snaps in place of Brantley.
It is unknown how much practice time Brantley is supposed to miss.
