A Gainesville man who was stabbed Tuesday morning is in critical condition.
Dustin Waters, 29, was stabbed in the middle of his back at about 10:40 a.m. in the Pine Ridge neighborhood, said GPD spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri.
Police later arrested 29-year-old Abner Mendoza and charged him with attempted murder.
Witnesses told police that the two men were in the middle of an argument about stolen property when Mendoza stabbed Waters in the back, Valuri said.
When police got to the scene, the knife was still buried in Waters' back — all they could see was the handle.
Waters was taken to Shands at UF where Valuri said he underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
Mendoza was arrested and interviewed by GPD. He told police he stabbed Waters, Valuri said.
