Music lately has been rooted in nostalgia. Artists have been trying to recreate the sounds of yesteryear and it is rare that these songs actually posses the essence of the music it is imitating. The work of today’s spotlight artist is an exception. Dana has found a way to channel the sounds of previous decades in a way that feels genuine and refreshing.
Dana is a singer-songwriter currently based in the Bay area of California. She first gained notoriety through her “A Capella” series. These were acapella song snippets that were accompanied by black-and-white short films. Dana has been recording music since she was 14 and began to truly find her sound after delving into 1950s jazz. After finding her inspiration from old music and black-and-white films she began to release her music on the internet. Her music eventually caught the attention of music promoter Sonic Villain. She signed to the company and released her EP Love, Dana on iTunes in 2013. Since then she has been on a hiatus and has not released another project. She has also been quiet on social media with the only new news being that she was collaborating with rapper G-Eazy. Dana assured fans in December of 2014 that new music was coming and I have no doubt that the wait will be worth it.
