On the last day of 2020, Gators quarterback Kyle Trask shared his next step — declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.
In slightly more than two minutes, Trask reflected on his time at Florida and shared his aspirations in a video posted to Twitter. A subtle piano track played as he explained that he consulted with coaches, family, friends and his support group about his future.
“I’ve had dreams of playing in the NFL ever since I was a kid,” the Manvel, Texas native said. “So, just to have this opportunity to play at the next level, it’s crazy.”
But Trask’s success in Florida came late into his career.
Throughout high school, Trask was a backup quarterback. His early career mirrored this as Trask didn’t start in any Gator games until former quarterback Feleipe Franks’ season-ending right leg injury in 2019. In 12 games that season, he threw for 2,941 yards and 25 total touchdowns en route to winning the Orange Bowl. He became the starter after Franks’ transfer to Arkansas.
The redshirt senior is a finalist for the Heisman, leading the country in touchdown passes (43) and passing yards per game (375). He’s the only FBS player with five 400-yard games this season, and the first player in SEC history and fourth FBS quarterback to throw four or more touchdown passes in each of his first six games this year.
“I’ll always be a Gator,” he said. “I’ll always bleed orange and blue.”
