Gator fans will need to shell out more money for next season’s football games.
The University Athletic Association emailed students Dec. 16 and notified them that next season’s football tickets, which go on sale in April, will increase in price to $140 from last year’s $105. Season tickets for boosters, who contribute money to UF’s football program, will also increase in price from $300 to $330.
This is the first time the UAA has changed ticket prices since 2011, said Dan Apple, a UAA assistant director of communications for football. The UAA expects to add $1.4 million from the increase in booster’s season tickets and $647,000 from the increased cost of student tickets, he said.
The UAA board of directors approved raising ticket prices because they didn’t expect to have enough money to cover the expenses of UF’s athletic programs in 2016, Apple said.
“This is one of the ways we could make revenue for 2016,” he said.
Rahul Benda, a UF chemical engineering sophomore, had mixed feelings about the increase.
“I see that it’s going to be more difficult to accommodate students that can’t pay higher prices,” the 19-year-old said. “However, I don’t think we have the biggest grounds to complain because we have a fair opportunity to buy decently priced tickets.”
