Montverde Academy senior Malik Reneau announced his commitment to Florida Wednesday.
Reneau publicized his commitment via On3 Recruits’ Instagram live. The four-star power forward sits No. 23 on ESPN’s Top 100, making him the highest-ranked recruit in Gainesville since Scottie Lewis in 2019.
The forward’s top seven included Florida, Memphis, Florida State, Miami, Seton Hall, Arkansas and Indiana. He eventually narrowed his choices to Florida, Memphis, Miami and Florida State before the orange and blue trumped them all.
Reneau proved his potential playing in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League circuit. While playing for Nightrydas Elite EYBL in 2021, he averaged 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in six games, as well as 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks.
Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 210 lbs, the Miami native should make an instant impact on coach Mike White’s 2022-2023 squad. Reneau is the first player from the class of 2022 to commit to White’s program, which came up three points shy of a Sweet 16 berth this past season.
Reneau is “110% committed” to the program according to his Twitter and will join the squad in the O’Connell Center in 2022.
