A new museum exhibit is showing different perspectives on nature.

The Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art opened “Framing Nature: the Living World in Art” on Tuesday. It includes different forms of art that depict nature from various cultures and nations. The exhibit took about two years to plan and will run until July 17.

The exhibit, through which the museum will celebrate its vast collection of art, is part of the Harn’s 25th anniversary celebration, said Tami Wroath, the director of marketing and public relations at the museum.

The curators, Dulce Román and Eric Segal, wanted to show how nature is seen through the eyes of artists.

“It’s a universal theme,” Segal said. “We live with nature. We think of nature. We are impacted by nature, and we impact nature.”

For the curators, a challenge was selecting the art to be featured. Segal said he and Román identified 450 pieces of art and narrowed it down to 100 pieces.

Segal said he wants the exhibit to appeal to all of Gainesville’s residents.

“It’s very important for us to be accessible to the UF community and the Gainesville community,” Wroath said.

Segal said he also wants visitors to enjoy the rich collection of art and think about nature in a different light.

“I hope people really reflect on what nature means to them in the light of the diverse images,” Segal said.
