A UF employee and an electrical engineering student were arrested Wednesday for grand theft auto after they admitted to stealing two scooters.
At about 4 p.m., Gainesville Police officers spotted UF student Jared Wolffis, 24, and Bryan Urban, 22, suspiciously driving a truck around various apartment complexes off of Southwest 20th Avenue, according to the arrest reports.
When the officers followed the truck into Canopy Apartments, the pair stopped suddenly and made a U-turn in the parking lot, the report stated.
Police followed their truck until the officers pulled them over in Rockwood Villas Apartments, the report stated.
As police approached, Wolffis, who was in the passenger seat, got out of the truck and ran away, despite officers' demands to stop, the report stated.
After being read his rights, Urban admitted to stealing the scooter in the bed of the truck from Canopy Apartments, the report stated.
A police dog, Justice, was brought to search for the student in the area around the apartment complex. Within minutes, Justice found Wolffis and bit him, according to a GPD statement.
The pair were also connected to the theft of another scooter from near 200 SE Second Ave., the report stated.
Wolffis is charged with grand theft auto, resisting arrest without violence, and loitering and prowling. Urban is charged with grand theft auto and loitering and prowling, the report stated.
