The Students Party announced its executive ticket Thursday night for the upcoming Student Government election.
Political science senior Johnny Castillo, political science sophomore Jenna Goldman and environmental science junior Billy Farrell are running as the Students Party presidential, vice presidential and treasurer candidates, respectively.
During Spring elections, which take place Feb. 19 and 20, students can vote for Student Body president, vice president and treasurer.
Castillo said he was approached by the party to run for office. He said he only considered running for president.
Castillo, who served as treasurer and secretary on the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Student Council, said he could relate to students and their concerns.
“I am your normal student,” he said. “I can make you really, truly believe in this college.”
Students Party Communications Director Michael Christ said 26 candidates were narrowed down to three nominees after a rigorous selection process.
After the party’s executive board conducted two interview rounds, the board made recommendations for three candidates for each position. Members of the Students Party voted on the final nominees at 6 p.m. Thursday.
“We try to make it as democratic a process as possible,” Christ said.
He said the nominations were overwhelmingly passed by the party.
“We think all three bring different experiences, different backgrounds and different skill sets,” Christ said.
