The Gators’ luck could not carry over a second day in Madison, Wis. or Charlottesville, Va.
The No. 4 Gators women’s tennis team lost its first match of the season 4-3 to Northwestern at the quarterfinals of the ITA Team Indoor in Madison, Wis.
Florida won the doubles point, but struggled in singles.
No. 15 freshman Lauren Embree was defeated for a second straight match at the No. 1 spot, this time by No. 12 Maria Mosolva.
At No. 6, sophomore Claire Bartlett was pushed to three sets for a third straight match, but this time she lost the third set 7-5. Bartlett’s loss clinched the victory for Northwestern.
The Gators’ No. 26 doubles team was the lone bright spot for UF. After winning the doubles set, SEC Player of the Week Marrit Boonstra and No. 13 freshman Allie Will won their singles sets as well.
The Florida women’s tennis team will play in a consolation match today at 10 a.m.
A day after avenging its lone loss against No. 6 Baylor 4-2, the men’s tennis team lost to No. 3 Ohio State 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville.
It was the first time this season the Gators (5-2) lost four singles matches after winning the doubles point.
Senior Antoine Benneteau had a strong showing in the loss.
He and Alexandre Lacroix, won the doubles set that clinched the point for Florida.
Benneteau then won in singles in 6-1, 6-1 straight sets from the No. 3 spot.
Benneteau is now 7-0 in singles play this dual match season.
The UF men’s tennis team wraps up the tournament with a consolation match against Georgia today at 6:30 p.m.
