UF sophomore running back Emmanuel Moody came to the Gators expecting more playing time than he got at Southern Cal.
Instead, he earned just two carries for 2 yards in UF's first game and none against Miami on Saturday night.
On Tuesday, Gators coach Urban Meyer insisted he expects more out of Moody as the season goes on.
"He's just getting a little more comfortable in the offense, and we're force-feeding it pretty hardcore to him right now," Meyer said. "The thing is about this offense is people say it's complicated, and it is. There's a lot of stuff to it. And it works. It's not real hard to hand it off, and let guys run into big piles."
Meyer also said Moody's slight ankle injury was not the reason for his minimal participation.
TENNESSEE ON THE MIND: UF's upcoming game against Tennessee on Sept. 20 is coming fast, and the Gators want to be prepared.
UF briefly put some Tennessee game planning into Tuesday's practice, but Meyer said it was sloppy as expected.
"We tried some stuff we would normally not try on a game week because you just don't have time to jack around," Meyer said. "But we tried a couple things on offense, and we'll clean it up for tomorrow."
MEYER PRAISES HENRY: If Meyer has one position set in his lineup besides quarterback, it would be the punter's spot.
"The best thing about Chas is his professional approach to college football," Meyer said. "If everyone had that, I'd be heading home right now not worried about it because he's such a professional."
ETC. Sophomore defensive lineman Torrey Davis is earning his way back into Meyer's trust after academic and legal troubles, though he isn't "officially out of the doghouse." … Meyer expects sophomore linebacker Lorenzo Edwards to have a solid future, but he still has a way to go. Meyer said he has to "teach the tiger to bite." … Sophomore defensive tackle Brandon Antwine is making progress after suffering a damaging back injury last year. He is working in contact drills, but not all of practice.
