A body was discovered Tuesday night at Hideaway Gainesville, an off-campus student apartment complex at 2800 SW Williston Road, about seven minutes from UF’s campus, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Police officers responded to the scene following a call. A GPD spokesperson confirmed the deceased was male, but provided no further information about the investigation.
Residents received an email Tuesday night from apartment officials notifying them of an active police presence on the property. The email stated the apartment complex is cooperating with the police department’s investigation but did not provide further details.
Hideaway Gainesville staff declined to comment, citing they were not at discretion to do so.
The investigation remains ongoing, but there is no active threat to the Gainesville community, according to the police department.
One resident at Hideaway Gainesville, 21-year-old UF criminology senior Chloe Clark, said she noticed police cars when arriving home yesterday prior to receiving the email from the property. It wasn’t until searching Reddit when she found a link to a news article confirming a body had been found.
“I was really shocked that that was the reason,” Clark said. “I think they should offer at least some sort of information.”
