While students enjoy shorter lines and more parking during the Summer term, UF’s clubs have to find ways to keep attendance high with fewer people on campus.
Lambda Theta Alpha, the first multicultural sorority on campus, is trying to keep a steady stream of people by hosting Summer events, said Jordan Fulkerson, a 20-year-old UF criminology and law junior and a sister of the sorority.
Together with Latin fraternity Lambda Theta Phi, the sorority hosted a pool party Saturday at Campus Lodge.
For the Jewish organization Chabad, handing out free ice pops can get Summer students to check out the group, said 21-year-old Rafi Paris, a Montreal native who was helping the group’s rabbi.
Finesse, the official dance team of the Black Student Union, still practices despite the lack of students in town, said Briana Williams, a 19-year-old UF junior.
“We still hold practice during the Summer,” she said. “We don’t have as many girls in practice, but we still perform.”
Gator Civitan, a new organization that focuses on helping people with developmental disabilities, is using “Pokemon Go” to attract people by dropping “lure modules” after its informational meetings, said Vanna Yang, a 19-year-old UF exploratory sophomore.
“Social media and flyering is the best way for us to promote,” she said.
