What started out as a joke between a few friends on Facebook grew into a real event.
About forty students waited by Marston Science Library arms stretched and ready to run across the North Lawn “Naruto” style, with their arms splayed out behind them and heads bent forward. As of press time, 944 people were interested the event, which was created Aug. 11.
Recent UF graduate, Kelena Klippel, set up the event because she saw a lot of “Naruto” run-related events worldwide.
Klippel was excited for students to go to get students together for this carefree event.
“I think students should just look forward to enjoying some outdoor time, uniting over some silly activity,” Klippel said. “I’m just excited to see people laughing and living in the absurdity of the event.”
Tyler Renfroe, a 19-year-old UF dance junior, took the run to the extra mile and dressed up as an alligator to show school spirit and stand out from the crowd.
“It’s just a fun, random thing to do on the first week of school and just kind of have fun before the new school year starts,” Renfroe said.
Renfroe said he was also looking forward to making friends at the event.
Aaron Aguila, a 22-year-old UF wildlife ecology and conservation senior, was excited to run with “Naruto” fans.
“It’s a nice way to meet new people and meet my fellow ‘Naruto’ fanatics,” Aguila said. “Everyone should become a fan of ‘Naruto.’”
