We love being Gators because the enthusiasm on campus knows no bounds. Seriously, UF students get hyped up for anything and everything and then work their tails off to make everything bigger and better than originally expected.
For once, we're not talking about tailgating, protesting or registering voters. This time we're referring to the insane amount of people who turned out to break a water balloon fight record at Flavet Field on Friday.
There were more than 2,500 people who showed up to pelt each other with more than 55,000 water balloons on UF's campus.
The Editorial Board isn't exactly comprised of people who could be called number crunchers or math aficionados. In fact, big numbers tend to make us feel uncomfortable.
We prefer English, writing and editing, but we know big, impressive numbers when we see them. The thought of that many balloons makes our heads start to spin in confusion.
We can't imagine all the work that went into filling all those balloons, but we can certainly fathom the fun involved in unleashing them on thousands of people.
Even though the water balloon event didn't break a world record, UF still gained recognition by being featured on national television.
UF should try to break a world record every year. Our world record challenge could become as successful as Gator Gallop and the Great Underwear Dash.
We want our Gators sports teams to be the best in the nation, so why shouldn't we fight to attach UF's name to a world record?
