UF's Levin College of Law earned the No. 10 spot in Hispanic Business magazine's most recent ranking of the top law schools for Hispanic students.

The ranking has been issued every year since 1998 to highlight colleges that are attracting Hispanic students and to guide students when they are picking schools, said Mike Caplinger, research supervisor at the magazine.

UF was ranked No. 14 last year.

Caplinger said the rankings are based on criteria that include the percentage of Hispanic students and faculty and the reputation of the school.

UF's new class of law students this year was almost 11 percent Hispanic.

Pedro Malavet, one of four Hispanic members of UF's law faculty, said Hispanic students like UF because of the Hispanic professors, the student organizations that cater to Hispanics and the quality of the school, among other reasons.

"We're making progress in making our law school look like our state," he said.

UF's College of Engineering ranked No. 6 among the top 10 engineering schools for Hispanic students by the magazine.
