A man was arrested after he was found with a laptop from the State Attorney's Office early Thursday morning.
At about 5:30 a.m., Gainesville Police noticed Charles Hixon, 49, in the 500 block of Northwest 13th Street throw a backpack in a trash can, according to a GPD report.
The backpack contained a Dell laptop, the report stated.
GPD spokesman Keith Kameg said Hixon, covered in shards of glass, acted confused and said he didn't know anything about the laptop. Information on the computer linked it to the State Attorney's Office.
When officers arrived at the office at 120 W. University Ave., they noticed a large window was shattered and a room had been rummaged through, Kameg said.
"They found a footprint in the room that matched the man's exactly," he said.
Hixon was arrested and charged with burglary, loitering and prowling.
He has been arrested 40 times and convicted 16 times, Kameg said. He is currently serving a 10-year probation.
Kameg said stolen computers are usually sold.
