To my fellow Gators,

As this semester comes to a midpoint, I wanted to take a moment to address the Student Body regarding the upcoming Fall elections. In the coming weeks, Student Body elections for senators will be taking place across campus. In Fall, 50 candidates are elected to represent the various living locations of all students. There are 13 residence hall areas that have senators elected to represent their interests. There are also five districts — District A, B, C, D and E — that represent our students living off campus. Spring semester will see elections taking place for senators representing their academic college or year in school such as freshmen and sophomore.

As Senate President, I have had the opportunity to see the tremendous work that Student Government is able to accomplish on behalf of the students. SG has completed projects such as having Library West open 24 hours a day five days a week and the introduction of cellphone charging stations on campus. SG also continues to champion student needs by advocating in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. SG is able to do this through the support of the Student Body, and furthermore, through the elections of senators and others by students in general elections. It is the responsibility and duty of senators to accurately represent and champion the needs, the services and the voice of students.

Because of this, I urge all students to become informed about the upcoming elections for SG and to participate by voting on Oct. 2 and 3.

If you have any questions, the third floor of the Reitz Union is home to all SG offices and a wealth of information concerning SG. You can also visit the SG website at www.sg.ufl.edu.

Take care, and go, Gators!
