Midfielder Shannon Kavanagh was named an All-American selection by Inside Lacrosse.

The Gators hit the road to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to face the Tar Heels Friday.

This is the first meeting between Florida and North Carolina since 2019. The teams were scheduled to play last season, but the game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Florida defeated Louisville 14-7 victory in its season opener Feb. 13. Similarly, the Tar Heels defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves 14-7 in their Feb. 14 home opener.

North Carolina attacker Katie Hoeg scored five goals in the contest. Hoeg is UNC’s career leader in both points and assists. Junior attacker Tayler Warehime tallied four goals against Stony Brook. Warehime was Inside Lacrosse’s No. 19 incoming freshman in her class.

Gators’ captain Shannon Kavanagh dominated Louisville with three goals and hit the 200-point mark. The AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year is the ninth in program history to reach this honor.

Senior attacker Kassidy Bresnahan earned a hat trick versus the Cardinals.

UNC ranked No. 1 across the board while UF sits at No. 7 as of week two. The Gators dominated in the draw circle in 2020 and continue to do so as they won over half against the Cardinals. The Tarheels went undefeated during the brief 2020 campaign.

The matchup is scheduled to start at noon and will stream on ACC Network Network and ESPN+.
