'Greek' stars to visit campus for voter registration drive

Register to vote next week and you might just see a celebrity.

The UF Bookstore will host a voter registration drive Sept. 9, complete with appearances from a few stars of the ABC Family show "Greek."

Follett Higher Education Group, which manages the bookstore, has teamed with Declare Yourself, a national nonpartisan and nonprofit campaign targeting 18- to 29-year-old voters, for the event.

"Greek" actors Scott Michael Foster and Dilshad Vadsaria will sign autographs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., said Lynne Vaughan, director of the UF Bookstore.

Chomp the Vote, Student Government's official bipartisan organization whose aim is to register student voters, will also be on hand.

"They'll be here to help us with the logistics of helping people register and, hopefully, crowd control," Vaughan said.

Lily Parkinson, freshman and member of the Chi Omega Sorority, said the show gives an interesting twist on Greek life by capturing everyday experiences in an exaggerated way.

"My family watches it together because my mom and dad were Greek in college," Parkinson said. "It's kind of like our family bonding time."

Parkinson said she would probably stop by the bookstore to snag an autograph, but the opportunity to vote is just as important.

"We're going to be graduating soon, and these issues are really going to start affecting us," she said.
