If you’ve ever wandered around the student ghetto post-midnight — or shopped at the Oaks Mall — you know that Gainesville can be creepy. Really creepy.

But not as creepy as these movies. Here to help you gear up for Halloween, the Avenue’s movie night picks are inspired by our own creepy, creaky college town. Watch with caution.

“Night of the Creeps” (1986)

Those Human vs. Zombies kids would be proud: An alien experiment crashes to earth and infects a fraternity member who is then frozen but accidentally thawed in the 1980s by two pledges. The corpse then proceeds to infect the campus with parasites that enter their victims through the mouth and transform their hosts into killer zombies.

“The Gainesville Ripper” (2010)

This is a real horror story — a story that hits as close to home as they come. Telling the tale of a true monster, killer Danny Rolling, this movie was filmed in Gainesville and retells the brutal murders of five college students. Remember those that were lost, as they were Gators, too.

“Sorority Row” (2009)

This remake of “The House on Sorority Row” (1983) goes out to all those pranksters out there.

If a prank goes horribly wrong and someone dies, don’t cover it up because someone will hunt you down at a “killer” party — if you catch my drift.

Luckily, pretty much the only thing the sorority girls around here have to worry about is shopping at the Oaks Mall.
