Student Body President Joselin Padron-Rasines welcomed student senators to the first Spring Senate meeting.
In the short meeting Tuesday night, senators passed a resolution honoring first responders by unanimous consent. Committee appointments for the Capital Improvement Trust Fund also passed by unanimous consent.
CITF committee members use funds to support non-academic student life in buildings on campus, such as the Reitz Union and Newell Hall.
“Thank you for approving the CITF appointments,” Padron-Rasines said. “I really appreciate it.”
Erica Baker, UF’s supervisor of elections, also discussed backup options for Spring SG elections. If five or fewer of the voting locations are down, students will be asked to visit a working location, she said.
Tuesday was also the first day students could request absentee ballots, she said. Students can request a ballot on the SG website or in person at the SG office in the Reitz Union. The diversity outreach committee also announced they will be holding a Martin Luther King Jr. candlelight march and walk Jan. 13.
The next SG meeting will be held Tuesday at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, said Senate President Susan Webster (Impact, District A).
By having the meeting outside Senate chambers, she said she hopes senators will be able to meet the students they represent.
“I’m very excited for that meeting,” she said.
