At about 1:20 a.m. Saturday a woman was hit by an RTS bus between University Avenue and NW 18th Street.
"We have no comment because the investigation is still ongoing," said Sergeant Campos of the Gainesville Police Department.
Eyewitnesses overheard the RTS driver say the woman was walking east on University Avenue and suddenly turned in front of the bus onto NW 18th Street.
Three women, who were riding the bus and wish to remain anonymous, said they felt the driver slam on the brakes. They said the impact felt like a car crash.
"I didn't see anything. I just heard her get hit. And I heard her hit the ground," said a Stetson law student, who called 911.
"She didn't move, but she was still breathing," he said.
