Private parts weren’t too private at “The Vagina Monologues” Sunday.

About 200 people gathered in the Reitz Union Auditorium to see the fourth annual production of the Monologues, a play that promotes female sexuality and an end to violence against women and young girls.

During the monologues, women talked from the perspective of their vaginas and complained about tampons.

The play was sponsored by Gator Health and Safety Agency, a Student Government agency.

Last year’s production raised more than $4,000, said Jenna Calton, the director and organizer of the production.

Proceeds for the show go to Peaceful Paths, a certified domestic abuse network with a mission to stop domestic violence and encourage people to make healthy, informed choices.

Emily Schwarz, an advertising senior, has been acting in the play for three years now.

“I saw the play as a freshman and immediately decided that I wanted to do it,” Schwarz said. “I received an e-mail as a sophomore, and I’ve been participating ever since.”

She said men and women can relate to the play.

“Only two hours of your time can help prevent violence toward women and girls,” she said.  “We all love our women.”
