In response to Friday's article, I would like to bring attention to Katherine Schinn's misrepresentations of Dr. Kevorkian's patients.
She alleges that "many" patients Kevorkian helped to die were not physically ill, but suffering from depression. This statement is extremely misleading. Yes, some of these patients were suffering from depression - which, incidentally, is a physical illness. However, many more were suffering from other terrible, incapacitating ailments such as Lou Gehrig's disease, multiple sclerosis and quadriplegia. Ms. Schinn said that she and other members of UF's Pro-Life Alliance plan to protest the speech on Tuesday. Instead of boycotting the speech in front of lecture hall doors, I challenge these students to walk through them and listen to what Dr. Kevorkian has to say.
