GatorWell will trade its chocolate for orgasmic cookies in a twist on their sexual education program.
Today, GatorWell is hosting a version of its popular “Sex, Lies and Chocolate” presentation, this time called “Sex, Lies and Cookies,” at Jennings Hall, located at 1515 Museum Road, at 7 p.m. Cookiegazm will serve cookies at the event as Laurie Mintz, a psychology professor and “sexpert,” will discuss sexual health and pleasure.
Samantha Evans, a GatorWell sexual health educator, said the program involves a sex Q&A session with questions not easily answered by a textbook. Students can also submit anonymous questions. Cookies are a reward for people who actively participate in the discussion, Evans said.
Although the event is aimed toward freshman students, all UF students are invited to attend. Evans said it was important to do the panel early as freshmen adjust and form healthy habits.
“We talked about trying to do it within the first six to eight weeks of the semester because it’s a really big time of transition for first-year students,” Evans said.
Mintz, 57, will provide input about the pleasure aspect of sex.
“I’m trying to bust societal myths about pleasure and orgasms that are getting in people’s way of enjoying sex,” she said.
Mintz is the author of “Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters — And How to Get It.” Her book attempts to solve the problem of the pleasure gap, where women don’t have orgasms as often as men do during sex, Mintz said.
“You can’t solve every sexual problem under the sun with one book,” she said. “And this book, it has a goal and that is to close the pleasure gap.”
Asantewaa Yamoah, a UF psychology sophomore, said she hopes to gain more knowledge from experts in the field.
“I’m interested to see what the panel has to say about sexuality and the different types of ways to express that and being fluid in sexuality,” the 19-year-old said.
