Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis will be named the head coach at Kansas on Friday, the Jayhawks announced Thursday.

Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis will be named the head coach at Kansas on Friday.

The school made the announcement Thursday on its athletics department's Twitter account. Weis will be introduced as the program's head coach sometime Friday afternoon, filling a vacancy left by Turner Gill, who was fired after two seasons.

Weis leaves Florida after less than a year after becoming the highest-paid assistant in Gators history when he signed a three-year deal worth more than $2.6 million.

Under Weis, the Gators' offense struggled en route to a 6-6 season and a Gator Bowl berth. Florida ranked 102nd in the nation in total offense (334.17 yards per game), 72nd in scoring offense (25.58 points per game), 75th in rushing offense (144 yards per game) and 87th in passing offense (190.17 yards per game).

The Gators also ranked 112th in the nation in third-down conversions (30.61 percent).

Florida coach Will Muschamp said at a Gator Bowl reception Thursday that he is "happy" for Weis and supports the move. Muschamp added that the Gators plan on sticking with a pro-style offense moving forward and will hire a replacement with a similar offensive style to Weis.

Muschamp said there is no timeline for hiring a new offensive coordinator.

Running backs coach Brian White will call plays during the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2 against Ohio State.
