Netflix’s queen of “nailing” sweet treats will come to UF Wednesday after resolving scheduling conflicts.
Netflix star and podcast host Nicole Byer will perform stand-up at the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. The event, hosted by the Reitz Programming Board, is free for all UF students with their Gator 1 Cards. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Byer was supposed to perform at UF on Aug. 21, but her event was canceled a week after its announcement because of scheduling issues.
Byer will be paid $15,000, which comes from student activity fees, said Tori Chin, board vice president of external affairs.
“After we announced the original event, we noticed the amount of excitement that was surrounding it and how many people really wanted to see her,” she said. “We worked really hard to try to reschedule it and bring her to UF.”
Byer is known for her Netflix show “Nailed It!” and podcast “Why Won’t You Date Me?” She also made guest appearances on shows such as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “The Good Place.”
The board hopes that rescheduling the event will not cause a smaller turnout, Chin said.
“We are trying to do our best to make sure that the original group of people that were planning to go to the first event can still come,” she said.
Eric Etcheverry, co-director of the board’s talent committee, said Byer is right for a UF audience because she champions confidence.
“She inspires others to remain positive about who you are, and to just be confident and comfortable in your own skin,” Etcheverry said.
Brooke Faer, a 21-year-old UF psychology senior, has looked forward to seeing Byer since the original announcement, and she doesn’t think the change of date will affect turnout.
“I think she’s a really entertaining host and I think it would be cool to see what she has to say at the event and what her stand-up is like,” she said. “It’s an exciting opportunity to see her for free.”
