The
Gators capped off a strong first day at the Seminole Twilight
Invitational on the arms of their throwers.
Three of Florida’s four opening victories in Tallahassee came from
members of associate head coach Steve Lemke’s crew, including a
sweep in the men’s and women’s javelin.

Freshman Fawn Miller rocketed a
personal-best and top-three school time in the discipline with a
throw of 49.45m/162-3 on the way to first place in the
javelin. On the men’s side, fellow freshman Stipe Zunic also placed
at the top with a 71.74m/235-4 throw.

“Fawn has been working really hard,” Lemke said. “We had good
conditions today. She took advantage of that and had a personal
best. This is definitely a confidence-builder for her going into
the conference meet and the championship part of our schedule.”
After racking up a win at the discus last weekend at the Penn
Relays, Keely Medeiros also added to the tally with her second
victory in the shot put with a toss of

The lone non-throwing event win came from Daisy Glasser in the pole
vault. The senior spring boarded to a leap of 3.96m/12-11.75, which
challenged her season-best mark.

“We got done what we wanted to do today,” Lemke said. “We just
wanted to see if we could put into a competition setting what we
have been working on in practice, and that happened today. Stipe
did a good job throwing the shot and the javelin to get ready for
conference next week, and we accomplished what we wanted in both
the shot and the javelin.”
