Swamp Records, the UF student-produced record label, will be hosting a showcase presented by Student Government Productions.
On Friday at 7:30 p.m., a variety of local bands and artists will gather at The JAM, 817 W. University Ave., to perform and network.
“The goal of this event is to celebrate the launch of Swamp Records this year and provide more information to the public about who we are and what we aim to do,” wrote Rachel Ring, head director for Swamp Records, in an email.
Ring, a 21-year-old UF management senior, said Swamp Records hopes to promote and support local Gainesville talent and help take their careers to the next level.
Swamp Records is looking for bands with a strong following, stage presence and quality material, she said.
“Our bands cover a range of genres including: electronic, funk/soul, hip-hop and more,” she said.
However, Ring said no bands will be signed until Swamp Records secures the legal right to do so.
The event will feature two stages: one outdoors and one inside with bands performing all night.
One of the performances featured at the showcase will be Bells and Robes, a Gainesville-based two-person electronic band formed by UF graduates.
Luke Sipka, co-producer for Bells and Robes, said he hopes to see the showcase foster a better relationship between UF and the music scene.
“I’ve read about so many cities where a venue forms, and a scene starts with locals that eventually have a huge impact,” Sipka wrote in an email. “I feel like something along these lines is forming in Gainesville.”
