While she values winning over personal acclaim, Saturday’s
performance gave Stephanie Brombacher something a little extra to
smile about.
Florida’s ace pitcher tossed the second perfect game of her career
as the Gators blanked NC State 9-0.
Brombacher pitched five flawless innings, registering six
strikeouts in her second win of the season.
The offense continued its hot hitting as it scored nine runs
against both NC State and Long Island on Saturday.
Once again, the top of the Gators’ lineup gave the opposition
fits.
Leadoff hitter Michelle Moultrie set the tone early, going a
perfect 4-4 in the UF’s 9-2 win against Long Island.
The speedy outfielder singled in all four at-bats and also stole
second before scoring on Aja Paculba’s second-inning home run.
She followed up by going 2-3 with another stolen base against NC
State.
Against Long Island, Florida’s No. 1-5 hitters combined for 10 hits
in 17 at-bats, including home runs by Paculba, Kelsey Bruder and
Megan Bush. The heart of the lineup also accounted for five or the
team’s nine runs against NC State.
While the veterans continued to play well, sophomore Brittany
Schutte and freshman Cheyenne Coyle also had a strong day.
Schutte reached base on all four at-bats against NC State, drawing
two walks and adding a three-run home run in the third inning.
After going hitless against Long Island, Coyle redeemed herself
with a two-run home run, her third of the young season, in the
fifth inning against NC State.
