Dr. Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini
UF’s College of Nursing named Dr. Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini its first director of diversity and inclusion this month.
In the position, Stacciarini, an associate professor in the college, will aim to create better dialogue and educate others about the need for diversity.
College of Nursing Dean Anna M. McDaniel did not say how much Stacciarini was being paid.
“I believe that Dr. Stacciarini’s work in this area will have a very positive impact for our entire college and am confident that positivity will serve as a model campuswide,” she wrote in an email.
Stacciarini will also work on student and faculty recruitment as a director and said she wants to create a better working and learning environment, she said.
“As nurses, we need to be prepared to care for a more diverse patient body across the spectrum,” Stacciarini wrote in an email.
Casey Dillon, a UF nursing graduate and former student of Stacciarini, said having more diversity in the college will help students prepare for nursing careers.
“This is something that’s really needed, because in the world we don’t work with, you know, just one type of person, especially in nursing,” the 26-year-old said. “We work with a wide variety of people every day.”
