Former Florida Gators wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was reportedly shot during a robbery attempt in Union Square on Saturday afternoon. Pearsall, who was selected 31st overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, was attending an autograph signing event in the city when the incident occurred.
The suspect reportedly approached Pearsall and attempted to steal his Rolex watch at gunpoint. A struggle subsequently ensued for the suspect's gun, leading to both Pearsall and the suspect being shot.
Gia Vang of NBC Bay Area reports that the suspect is currently in police custody. Both Pearsall, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and the suspect are in stable condition.
Fellow 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Pearsall "[is] good" and is expected to recover.
Pearsall spent the final two seasons of his collegiate career with the Gators, where he became an immediate contributor and established himself as the top receiver in Florida's offense.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed released a statement saying that "[her] thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time".
