The F3 Futures Pro Circuit tournament is continuing its action through Jan. 15, but for two young University of Florida tennis players, the competition came to an abrupt end on Tuesday.
Freshman Johannes Ingildsen and sophomore Alfredo Perez were both eliminated from the main singles draw after each made impressive runs through the qualifying round.
Ingildsen squared off against Russian Ilya Vasilyev. Despite dropping only one set during the tournament’s first four rounds, Ingildsen was unable to win a single set against the Russian, falling 3-6, 3-6.
Perez, meanwhile, faced Polish-born Maciej Rajski, who held the No. 3 seed in the qualifying round. Perez and Rajski split the first two sets 4-6, 7-5 before Rajski cruised past Perez in the final set, defeating the American 1-6.
Neither player will see any competitive action again until Jan. 21, giving them plenty of time to rest before the Gators meet Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State in a doubleheader to begin the dual season.
